Jon Eric pickin it solid!
After the 4/20 show on Tuesday, I headed up to Ames, IA to sit in with MBN-TSSB. Unfortunately there are no pictures from that show- as it is downright impossible to always have pics shot while one is playing.
After playing I scooted back to Iowa City for RIVERFEST!

I am so thankful for all those who made it out! And VERY thankful the rain held off for the whole set! Also a special thanks to my good buddy Miles Raife for adding that solid guitar track- saving me from lugging a bunch of gear risking the chance of getting all the equipment drenched! But the rain came — as I was on my way BACK out to Des Moines for another show that night!
The Vaudeville Mews was a stellar time as well with MBN-TSSB. Thankfully one photo was sent by www.jessicaphotography.net
Tonight
Slew Grass will be playing TODAY 4/27 at 7pm – Lonnski’s Pub & Deli 908 Main Street Grinnell, IA See you there!

Acoustic Tuesdays Bridge Benifit
Thank you for supporting the musical dreams making them a reality! Also, be sure to check back in about a week as MORE fliers for shows will be added as soon as I can!

Last week I had the honor of sharing the stage with my old friend Vince Herman last Thursday (4/08/2010) and his band The Great American Taxi from Colorado! Vince has been kind enough to allow me to learn and grow as a musician forging through the hot sounds he and his band plays. For that I am so deeply grateful for any opportunity I get to sit in with those super talented fellas! Below are some pics of the show @ The Red Stone Room in Davenport, IA

Article below:
The Chicago Bluegrass & Blues Festival, a one-day music fest to be held this December 12th, 2009 at the legendary Congress Theatre, is bringing the Battle of the Banjos to the Windy City. Organizers have announced the kickoff of “Last Banjo Standing,” an online contest that will scour the Chicagoland area to find the top bluegrass or blues inspired artist.
The winner, as voted on by fans, family, friends and music lovers around the city, will join a slew of national headliners – including Béla Fleck & the Flecktones and the Emmitt-Nershi Band – on stage this fall. 25 bands for a mere $35 bucks just got a whole lot sweeter, as one local band will get the chance to bring down the house, alongside: Béla Fleck & the Flecktones, Emmitt-Nershi Band, Dr. Dog, Eddy “The Chief” Clearwater, The Giving Tree Band, Van Ghost, Majors Junction, Chicago Farmer, Jaik Willis, Josh Phillips Folk Festival, Mike Mangione & The Band, Holy Ghost Tent Revival, Tangleweed, Environmental Encroachment, Squeeze-bot, GreenSugar, How Far to Austin, Liberty Bluegrass Band, The Right Now, Cobalt & the Hired Guns, The Shams Band, Goodbyehome, and the Junior League Band
Online voting:
The online voting period begins on October 15th, and concludes on October 31st, 2009. Each e-mail address will be allotted one vote per day, and as is the tradition in Chicago, encourage your supporters to vote early and often!
Winner will be announced:
After October 31st the votes will be tallied and Chicago Bluegrass & Blues Festival organizers will choose the winning artist amongst the top 5 vote-getters. The winner will be announced at 12:00 a.m. on October 16th, at www.cbbfestival.com.
“As we kick off the inaugural Chicago Bluegrass & Blues Festival, we launched the Last Banjo Standing contest to give every musician a shot at taking the stage. Chicago boasts a non-elitist reputation for recognizing good music, and we’re excited to give an up-and-coming, still-to-be-discovered musician the exposure they need to break through to the next level,” says Michael Raspatello, founder/organizer of the Chicago Bluegrass & Blues Festival.
A portion of each $35 ticket will also be donated to the Saving Tiny Hearts Society, a non-profit organization that raises money for life-saving research of congenital heart defects (CHD), and Prevent Child Abuse America.
For more information about the contest and for full lineup and ticket purchasing information, please visit: www.cbbfestival.com.
GRASS STOCK 09 and other great news!
by Jon Eric on Aug.18, 2009, under music
Just got back from this weekends’ amazing event Grass Stock ‘09.
Talk about some pickin’ ! The WWB (World Wide Bluegrass) was so kind to allow me to share the main stage with so many wonderful pickers.
Thanks to everyone who gave kind words and made it out to chat and pick with me- I live for these kind of events where music, fun, and friends gather.
Anyone with photos or video of the event feel free to forward them on to my email- JonEricMusic@Gmail.com
Would be delighted to share them with others if you allow it.
Special thanks to the WWB, Gracie Muldoon and most of all to Uncle Billy Dunbar! Uncle Billy has been nominated for IBMA DJ of the year so if you are a member – PLEASE vote for him!
HUGE and special thanks to banjoists Butch Osborne, Johnny Butten, for the inspiring and kindred words of their amazing banjo talent!
Last but not least thanks to Roger Bush (bass) for giving me so much ear candy from his friends’ “amazing” cds. Roger & I were chasing the sun picking and singing into the night. Sharing parts of our musical lives which allowed for inspiration beyond words! Such an honor meeting you buddy! It’s very ironic to find that one is an inspiration putting a face with some tunes I has been listening to for years! I am sure our paths will cross again real soon my friend.

The band name is SLEWGRASS
Tunes can be heard here on MYSPACE!

Anyone interested in booking the band can feel free to email me or find us through the other sites we maintain. Book it now for next years’ events cause the calander will book up fast!
ALREADY 8 tunes have been recorded in the studio and we are well on our way to getting the cd project completed!

Notes on the activity this past week
by Jon Eric on Mar.03, 2009, under General
Been working in the studio for a few new upcoming projects I have had kicking around for far too long- Ideas of branching out with different sounds the banjo can do seem to flow out onto the tracks.Iowa Flood. If you can donate to one of the MANY causes close to your heart, please do, as there is still much need in the surrounding areas. The Mill! If I play there any more during the week they’ll start charging me RENT! I sure do like playing there though…HERE Just a small way of giving back to the Iowa City community when it has given so much to me musically.
The student load for banjo, guitar and voice has picked up (a bit) now that people are recovering from the
The time schedules definitely keep me hopping and driving all over Iowa to keep up.
Last week I sat in with one of my students @ The Mill- who asked me to sit in with him as he did his 1st open mic on Monday- Then we all played till about closing time. Making for some HAPPY fingers and good times.
-Wednesday- Sitting in with the Burlington Street Bluegrass Band was quite a “treat”. The “veterans” of the Iowa City music scene are so gracious to allow me to cut my teeth on that ole’ stage @
Was asked to and got to play a Tuesday and Thursday during the lunch hour for some “VIP” guests
-Thursday- Was able to hit a local jam after my last student. Some of the people at the jam have been made aware of the causes I care a bit about and were so sweet to have DONATED
3 HUGE bags of clothes for the cause- I have NO idea where those bungee cords came from but they all were tied up tight in the back of my old Ford pick-up and I drove them on back.
-Friday- was working in 2 separate studios on various projects. -Saturday- was doing a bit of banjo in Ames. (LATE)
-Sunday- I was asked and played banjo for the offertory for Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
Then back in the studio from 2-4pm.
Needless to say- it has been a busy week.
With a new one just beginning…
